there’s an insightful tale about a learned woman who went to seek an advice of a Zen Guru to confer about the privileges of Zen. The Guru poured her a cup of Zen tea, &deliberately kept pouring so the tea overflowed the cup &ran over onto the table. The woman had this unsettling feeling &asked the Guru what he was doing. The Zen Guru replied, “you are in the same way as this cup, too full of your own notions to receive anything else.” now, i’d like to entreat &ask everyone reading this post to un-fill yourselves of your notions – opinions, fears, convictions, hopes, resentments &predispositions for just a moment. just let them go… un-fill your cup. Good. some people describe this emptiness as nirvana — acquired by years of contemplation. i would propose there’s another path to achieve this state of blankness: keep working &do not take into account of what’s not there. don’t think, don’t reminisce. which is the genesis of another Zen conundrum that i’d rather not speak about anymore because i’m un-filling the fucking cup.
